FAQs

1. Who would benefit from Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Anyone! Solution focused hypnotherapy works for a range of issues including anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, panic attacks, PTSD, low confidence, chronic pain, weight management and performance. There is very little that it cant help with.

However, SFH is not necessarily the right type of therapy for everyone. If you would like a therapy where you spend lots of time talking about your past and your problems, then SFH is probably not for you. 

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is an active process- it is not something I will do 'to' you. It will require you to engage with the process and be committed to doing the 'homework' (mainly writing down your positives and listening to the trance MP3) between our sessions.

2. Will I have to talk about my past?

No. In the initial consultation we will look at what you hope to get from solution focused hypnotherapy and what your current symptoms are. The focus of solution focused therapy is where you are now and how to move forwards in a positive way.

3. Will you be able to control me during hypnosis?

No! Hypnosis is not the swirling eyes, pendulum swinging, dance around the stage like a chicken image that can come to mind from stage hypnosis. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state which we go in and out of many times a day. You will simply rest back and listen to the sound of my voice with relaxing music in the background. You may fall asleep, but your brain will still be very active. You may listen to everything I say or drift in and out of paying attention. It doesn't matter as your brain will still take everything in and use the time to process what we have talked about in the session.

4. Can you work with children?

Yes. I have a full DBS certificate and have many years experience working with children. Currently I work with children from age 12 upwards.

5. How many sessions will I need?

Most people have between 8 and 12 sessions. However, this is not definite- some will have more and some will have less.  However, solution focused hypnotherapy is designed to be brief therapy. It should give you the tools and knowledge you need to move forwards fairly quickly. Phobia treatment and quitting smoking sessions are different, with phobias being 4 sessions and smoking being a single 2 1/2 hour session.

6. Does it matter if I do it on person or online?

No. Both work equally as well and the sessions run in the same way. It is personal preference.
